Awards & Professional Recognition

Hometown Lawyers, Recognized Beyond Their Hometown

Brothers Kevin C. Johnson and Steven W. Johnson built Johnson + Johnson Attorneys at Law in the town where they were both born and raised. The recognition they’ve earned since then reflects the same standard they set for themselves in law school: prepare harder, sweat the details, and never settle for good enough. Here’s a full look at the credentials, honors, and professional standing our attorneys have built.

South Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Stars

Attorney Kevin Johnson has been named to the South Carolina Rising Stars list each year from 2022 through 2026, a peer-nominated honor limited to no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state who are 40 or younger or in their first ten years of practice. Attorney Steven Johnson has also been recognized with a Super Lawyers Rising Stars designation. The Rising Stars selection process weighs peer recognition, professional achievement, and independent research rather than any single case or outcome.

Law School Honors That Shaped Two Trial Lawyers

Kevin and Steven attended Charleston School of Law together, and both left with honors that foreshadowed the trial lawyers they’d become. Kevin graduated summa cum laude, finished in the top three of his class, served as a Law Review Articles Editor, and won the individual award for Best Oral Advocate at a national Moot Court Competition. Steven earned a CALI Award for the highest grade in his class and received an individual award for outstanding professionalism from the school’s Trial Advocacy Board. Together, the brothers represented Charleston School of Law at the National Trial Advocacy Competition, where their team ranked in the top ten nationally, an early sign of the courtroom partnership they’d go on to build.

    Community Leadership in Lexington

Steven was appointed to the Eleventh Circuit Fee Dispute Committee in 2020, a body that helps resolve disputes between clients and attorneys over legal fees, and he began serving as Chairman of the Town of Lexington Building Codes Board of Appeals in August 2021. Kevin also holds a seat on the Eleventh Circuit Fee Dispute Committee, giving both brothers a direct hand in the professional standards that govern attorneys practicing in their home circuit.

    Professional Associations and Admissions

Both attorneys maintain the bar admissions and professional memberships that keep a personal injury practice sharp and connected to the legal community:

    • South Carolina Bar: Both attorneys are active members.
    • North Carolina Bar: Kevin is also admitted to practice in North Carolina.
    • U.S. District Court of South Carolina: Kevin is admitted to practice in federal court.
    • American Bar Association: Kevin holds membership in the national bar association.
    • Lexington County Bar Association: Both attorneys maintain ties to the local legal community where their firm is based.
    • South Carolina Association for Justice and American Association for Justice: Kevin is a member of both organizations, which represent plaintiff attorneys at the state and national level.
    • Citadel Alumni Association: Kevin is a Life Member, maintaining ties to the Citadel, the undergraduate alma mater he shares with Steven.
